THU 4TH JUL 2024 | ERENTIA, SERRANO 38, MADRID
EL ENCUENTRO - WHERE EXPRESSIONISM MEETS ARCHITECTURE
LOCATION AND ITINERARY
4th of July 2024
Calle Serrano 38, Madrid, ERENTIA Studio
THE EVENT
This first “Encuentro” featured a selection of renowned artists and architects who demonstrated excellence and creativity in their fields. Additionally, a group exhibition showcased the exquisite works of artists Alice Quaresma and Hams Klemens. You can see the available pieces here.
The inaugural event focused on abstract expressionism and the use of color, medium, and brushstroke in both architectural projects and the artistic creation process. Participating architectural studios included Studio DIIR, Matteo Ferrari’s studio, and Verbena Studio.
Alice Quaresma, a Brazilian-born artist based in London, explores belonging through landscapes of her hometown, Rio de Janeiro, and other places worldwide that are part of her past and life. Her photos, intervened with hand-painted color marks, reflect the passage of time and presence. Through her chromatic interventions, Alice creates a sense of belonging to those spaces that make her feel at home. Hams Klemens, a Marseille-based artist strongly inspired by abstract expressionism, is known for his large panels created on the walls of the city’s canals. His monumental work uses these unique spaces as canvases. He develops his work in unusual physical spaces, such as the canals of Marseille, allowing for strong and free expression. His works, though showing delicacy and elegance, result from a creative process in an environment away from conventional parameters.
Several architecture studios participated in the encounter to provide a different perspective influenced by color, stroke, and support:
Studio DIIR, founded by David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, Iñigo Palazón, and Ricardo Fernández, is distinguished by its innovative use of geometry and color, fundamental elements in its creative process. They use geometric strokes to characterize the journey and experience in their projects. Monumentality and order are essential, eliminating the superfluous to highlight the essential.
Matteo Ferrari Studio creates inspiring spaces with high emotional value, exploring the parallel between architecture and photography. They emphasize the importance of color, where black and white represent forms, volumes, and shadows, while color adds vibration, texture, and perceived sensations.
Verbena Studio starts its projects from an emotional and imaginative bond. They use the identity and memory of the space, intervening with color and textures to give them a unique character.
